The console is crafted to an unusually high standard, surmounted by a substantial slab of beautifully figured green marble above a deep frieze enriched with finely cast and hand-finished gilt anthemion mounts and beaded mouldings. The architectural base is supported by six magnificent hand-carved gilt hardwood winged female sphinxes, each individually carved with exceptional attention to detail, displaying Egyptian headdresses, finely feathered wings and powerful claw feet. Fluted pilasters and lattice-carved plinth blocks reinforce the classical architectural influence, while the sweeping concave stretcher gives the piece both elegance and visual balance.

The accompanying mirror perfectly complements the console, echoing the same restrained Neoclassical detailing with fluted uprights, gilt decorative mounts and its original bevelled mirror plate.
