Beautiful 19th Century English Faux Bamboo Painted Pine Side Table
Beautiful 19th Century English Faux Bamboo Painted Pine Side Table
A charming late 19th century English faux bamboo pine side table, retaining its original timeworn green painted finish with a wonderfully mellow patina developed over decades of use. Raised on elegant faux bamboo turned legs, it features a single front drawer with its original brass swan-neck handle and a beautifully figured pitch pine top, which provides a lovely contrast to the painted base.
The top has been carefully cleaned and finished with a coat of hard wax oil, enhancing the natural grain while providing lasting protection.
At some point in its life, later timber stretchers were discreetly added beneath the tabletop to stabilise it and help prevent any further movement or warping. This is a sensible historic repair that does not detract from the table's appearance or everyday usability.
A wonderfully versatile piece, equally suited as a lamp table, side table, hallway console or occasional desk, bringing authentic country house charm to any interior.
Condition: Good antique condition with age-related wear, knocks and rubbing to the original painted finish, all contributing to its character. Historic stabilising supports have been added beneath the top as described.
