Late Victorian Walnut Marble Top Étagère / Display Cabinet
Late Victorian Walnut Marble Top Étagère / Display Cabinet
A most unusual and highly decorative late Victorian walnut étagère or display cabinet of elegant architectural form, dating from the late 19th century.
The cabinet is surmounted by a beautiful rouge marble top above a single frieze drawer fitted with its original turned walnut knob. Four finely turned and fluted columns support an exceptional parquetry display shelf, inlaid with a striking checkerboard pattern centred by an intricate eight-point compass star, creating a superb visual focal point.
The lower section incorporates a useful cupboard enclosed by a moulded panel door, beautifully veneered in finely figured, book-matched oyster-cut walnut, displaying rich colour and wonderful natural grain. Raised on turned feet and retaining its original turned wooden drawer and cupboard knobs, the cabinet combines decorative appeal with practical storage.
A particularly distinctive and versatile piece, ideal as a lamp table, side cabinet, bedside cabinet or hall display stand. The quality of craftsmanship, unusual parquetry work and attractive marble top make this a highly desirable example of late Victorian cabinet making.
Condition:
Presented in very good antique condition with a rich, mellow patina. The marble top is in excellent order with only light age-related wear. Minor marks and wear consistent with age and use, adding to its authentic character.
