Set of Four English Leather Library Tub Armchairs
Set of Four English Leather Library Tub Armchairs
An elegant and increasingly scarce set of four English leather tub armchairs, dating from the 1950s, upholstered in beautifully timeworn hand-coloured tan hide with exceptional depth of patina acquired through decades of use.
The chairs possess an attractive Georgian Revival silhouette, with sweeping barrel backs, shaped arms, hand-applied brass close-nailed trim and finely tapered mahogany legs. The warm cognac leather has developed the rich character that only genuine age can impart, displaying honest wear, natural colour variation and an abundance of authentic patination.
Three chairs have benefited from sympathetic historic leather repairs to the seats, preserving their originality while adding to the story of their long working life. The leather remains supple and serviceable, with the surface crazing and wear expected of well-loved vintage country house furniture.
Originally acquired from a South Wales country estate, these chairs have all the appearance of having spent many years in a library, study or drawing room. They are equally suited to a period interior, country house, gentleman's office, hotel reception or interior design project.
The proportions are generous without being oversized, making them comfortable occasional or desk chairs while retaining an elegant architectural form.
A highly decorative and practical matching set, increasingly difficult to source in today's market, these fine English leather armchairs offer timeless style, exceptional character and the enduring appeal of authentic mid-century craftsmanship.
