A fine, matched set of six late Victorian Lancashire spindle-back, country dining chairs, dating from the late 19th century.

Constructed in solid ash with a rich, mellow patina developed through generations of use, each chair features robust turned uprights with elegant spindle backs, decorative turned cross rails and hand-carved shell cresting to the shaped top rail, combining practical country craftsmanship with understated decorative detail.

Raised on stout turned and block legs united by traditional stretchers, including attractive front turned stretchers, the chairs retain their original character and excellent colour throughout.

The seats have all been professionally re-rushed in natural rush, making the chairs immediately ready for everyday dining while preserving their traditional appearance. The rush work has been executed to a high standard using the correct four-way pattern.

The chairs display excellent honest wear consistent with age, with a deep, untouched surface and the warm patination only achieved through well over a century of use. They remain solid, comfortable and practical, making them equally suited to a period farmhouse, country kitchen or contemporary interior.
