A handsome and well-proportioned pair of English Arts & Crafts ladder-back side chairs, crafted in stained beech or fruitwood and very much in the manner of Liberty & Co., reflecting the firm's celebrated emphasis on honest craftsmanship, elegant simplicity and enduring quality. Although unmarked, the design, construction and proportions are entirely consistent with Liberty-influenced furniture of the period.

Dating from around 1900, each chair features six gently bowed horizontal ladder rails above a beautifully hand-rushed seat, recently re-rushed using traditional techniques, ensuring both authenticity and practical everyday use. The slender tapering uprights and subtly splayed legs create a refined silhouette, while the rich, mellow patina of the timber enhances their understated charm.

Wonderfully versatile, these chairs are equally suited to use as dining chairs, hall chairs or occasional seating, complementing Arts & Crafts, country house and contemporary interiors alike.

Presented in excellent antique condition, with minor age-related wear to the timber commensurate with over a century of careful use. The rush seats are newly woven and in excellent order.
