£625.00

An original Georgian vellum indenture dating to the third year of the reign of King George II (31 January 1729/30). Beautifully handwritten in period legal script on a single large sheet of fine animal vellum, featuring an impressive illuminated opening capital and complete with its original red wax seal and signatures.

This historic conveyance records the sale of a messuage (dwelling house) with appurtenances in Braintree, Essex, from William Jodden, yeoman, to Joseph Pedley, yeoman, for the substantial sum of £250, reflecting an important property transaction during the early Georgian period.

The document remains remarkably legible and displays all the characteristics sought by collectors of English legal manuscripts:

  • Large illuminated opening capital.

  • Original pendant tax stamp.

  • Original red wax seal intact.

  • Contemporary signatures.

  • Dated 31 January 1729/30.

Its visual impact makes it equally suited to interior decoration in a period home, library, office or country house as well as a collection of manuscripts or Essex local history.
