Belgian, attributed to the Henry Dean Glasshouse, circa 1975–1985

An exceptional and monumental hand-blown ruby glass architectural vessel of superb scale and quality, standing an impressive 48 cm high with a maximum diameter of 35 cm and weighing approximately 9.85 kg.

Expertly mouth-blown from heavy crystal glass, the vase displays a rich translucent ruby colour with natural variations, fine seed bubbles and subtle optical movement throughout the body, all characteristic of traditional furnace-made production. The broad base has been professionally ground and polished to a smooth finish, showing only honest age-related wear and retaining a distinctive colourless central zone visible through the interior, indicative of its complex hand-made construction.

The restrained cylindrical form, substantial proportions and understated elegance place this firmly within the tradition of monumental European decorative glass produced for luxury interiors during the 1970s and early 1980s.

Following extensive comparative research, the vase compares particularly closely with authenticated large-scale examples produced by the Henry Dean Glasshouse of Belgium. While no original label survives, the combination of scale, colour, construction, finish and overall design language strongly suggests production by that workshop or a closely related European architectural glasshouse.

Originally acquired from a former Cotswolds manor house later converted into a boutique hotel (1980’s), the provenance is entirely consistent with an object intended for high-end interior decoration of the period.

A rare and highly decorative statement piece, equally suited as a floor vase, sculptural vessel or architectural interior object.
