A magnificent and exceptionally large Art Deco turquoise-glazed ceramic swan jardinière of impressive sculptural form, modelled seated with elegantly folded wings enclosing a central planter, the graceful neck sweeping forward over the breast.

The body is finished in a striking turquoise crackle glaze with beautifully hand-modelled feather detail throughout. Particularly noteworthy are the original inset glass eyes, a feature generally reserved for higher-quality European decorative ceramics of the period and rarely encountered on comparable examples.

The planter is glazed throughout, including the interior cavity, and remains completely unmarked, not unusual for decorative Continental faience of the inter-war period where paper labels were frequently used instead of impressed factory marks.

Presented in outstanding original condition with no restoration, repairs or cracks observed. The glaze displays only light, honest age-related crazing consistent with its age, together with minimal wear to the underside from decades of careful display.

The piece comes with interesting family provenance, having been acquired from the son of the original owner, who stated that his father received it as a prize for a cross-country competition during childhood in approximately the late 1920s or early 1930s. Whilst this cannot be independently verified, it aligns well with the estimated production period.

Condition: Excellent antique condition, original glass eyes intact, no restoration, no visible cracks or chips, attractive age-related glaze crazing. Minor wear to the underside commensurate with age.
