Brass and cast Iron, Aesthetic Movement umbrella/stick stand

£645.00

A superb late Victorian brass and cast iron four-section stick stand of elegant Aesthetic Movement design, dating from the late 19th century.

The beautifully cast brass upper gallery is decorated with finely engraved repeating stylised foliate motifs, characteristic of the Aesthetic taste of the period. Four elegant turned brass finials secure the gallery, while the four solid brass uprights descend to a substantial cast iron base, giving the stand excellent weight and stability.

The base retains its original pair of removable cast iron drip trays, designed to catch water from walking sticks and umbrellas, making the stand as practical today as when it was first made. The crisp casting to the base echoes the engraved decoration above, creating a well-balanced and refined design.

A highly decorative yet functional hallway piece, ideal for both traditional and contemporary interiors, displaying a wonderful combination of warm brass patina and contrasting black cast iron.

Presented in very good antique condition with light, age-related wear and an attractive untouched patina consistent with its age.

Dimensions: Height: 70 cm, Width: 45 cm, Depth: 19 cm
