A striking and highly decorative Arts & Crafts repoussé brass firescreen, of substantial proportions, executed in the manner of John Pearson and the Newlyn School, the deeply hand-worked panel depicting two magnificent medieval galleons under full sail navigating rolling seas beneath swirling skies filled with seabirds and streaming banners.

The composition displays remarkable depth and movement, the ships emerging in bold relief against a vigorously hand-chased ground of rhythmic wave and cloud patterns. One vessel bears a heraldic lion upon its sail, adding a distinctive medieval character to the design. The panel is enclosed within a rope-twist border and raised on elegant cast scroll feet, retaining its original carrying handle.

Although unmarked, the quality of workmanship, maritime subject matter and expressive chased surface place the piece firmly within the British Arts & Crafts tradition. The romantic treatment of medieval sailing ships, together with the vigorous modelling and flowing surface decoration, strongly recalls the work of John Pearson (1859–1930) and the Newlyn School of metalworkers, although no specific attribution is implied.
