A finely cast Chinese bronze archaistic dragon (bixie/chilong type) standing in a powerful striding pose, the elongated scaled body with raised dorsal ridge, curled tail and elegantly arched neck terminating in a stylised dragon head with open mouth and pronounced brows.

The bronze displays a naturally developed rich brown patina with areas of verdigris and surface oxidation consistent with age. The casting is crisply modelled, with individually defined scales and hand-finished detailing throughout.

The dragon is mounted on its associated hardwood display stand, retaining its original lacquered finish and traditional hand-cut mortised mounting holes with traces of historic red sealing lacquer beneath the feet. The stand shows genuine age-related wear and is considered to have remained with the bronze for much of its life.

A decorative and highly displayable example of Chinese scholar's art inspired by archaic ritual bronzes.

Very good antique condition. The bronze has an attractive untouched patina with expected surface wear and oxidation acquired over many decades. No obvious structural damage noted. The hardwood stand has age-related wear and minor surface marks commensurate with age and use.
